New Beaver Colony!

We are very pleased to announce the opening of a second Beaver Colony in 4th Canvey Island Sea Scout Group!

The current Beaver Colony is thriving and doing very well and with increasing numbers on our waiting list and the support of some new and old leaders, we have decided to start a new Colony.

The Colony will be meeting on a Monday night at our HQ between 17.15 and 18.45.

Also please get in touch if you fancy helping out! Volunteering in scouting is very rewarding and enjoyable and the 4th Canvey Island Sea Scout Group is a great place to do it!

RN Inspection Passed

Last night we had our 18 monthly RN inspection and passed to retain our RN recognition.

We were very pleased to be visited by Lieutenant Commander Karen Cahil who is Staff Officer Scouts for the Royal Navy.

She was shown around the boating compound and site for our proposed new location as well as our HQ during the day and then attended the official inspection in the evening.

All of the Scouts and Explorers turned out as well as Leaders from all sections, members of the executive commitee, members from the district and county as well as supporters of the group such as the Rotary Club of Canvey Island and Sainsburys.

The evening was started with a formal parade where Lieutenant Commander Cahill was piped aboard. Then a night of typical activities was laid on for the Scouts by the Leaders, assisted by the Explorers which were inspected and viewed by everyone attending.

At the end of the evening we fell out with a closing ceremony and then the scouts were sat down to listen to Karen about how they had done. The good news was given and Karen thanked all the leaders and supporters for the great job they do and presented Steve Fenn (GSL) with the pass certificate.

Operation Lemming Results

Skip Gets Rotary Club Award

Our Scout Leader, Bradley Cox (50), was invited to attend a Rotary Club meeting at the Oysterfleet Hotel to give an update on the Jetty Proposal.

However he was surprised when he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow Award by the President of the Canvey Island Rotary Club, John Tremain.

Paul Harris founded Rotary in 1905 and the award is given in recognition for service to the community or to the Club. For information on the history of Rotary click here.

Brad received the award in recognition of his over 32 years of service to the 4th Canvey Island Sea Scout Group and his continuing commitment and drive to their projects.

The Canvey Island Rotary Club have been great supporters of 4th Canvey for many years and we would like to thank them for their continuing support.

Canvey Carnival

Canvey Carnival is this Saturday and the group has a float entering the event. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for what should be a great fun filled day.

Our float is a pirate galleon so get those pirate costumes on and come join us.

We are meeting at Thorney Bay Camp at 10.30 for judging at 11.00

Those of you who cannot make it on the float, please come and support the carnival.

If there are any adults or explorers willing to help put the float together, we will be down the HQ from 7.00

Scouts arrive safely in Holland

The scouts and explorers have all arrived safely in Holland and seem to have brought the weather with them! But the rain has not dampened spirits, they have been working on their willow badge and we’re off into Rotterdam this afternoon.

The relaunch of the ’100 Club’ has been well received having sold all 100 numbers for the month of February. A few people have even paid for the whole year! This is a quick, easy and painless way of generating funds for the Group.

If you wish to purchase your number (or numbers!) please contact Brad who is running this fund raiser. Hopefully this month, March, will see an increase to 150 available numbers. So to avoid disappointment put your pound on your number. There is no limit so don’t be shy, get your money at the ready and start picking!
